Specialty food gifts from Philadelphia and PA share local pride, send a taste of home, and support many small, local food businesses, many located within city limits.
Michael & Julie Holan own Pennsylvania General Store, located in Philadelphia's historic Reading Terminal Market for nearly 25 years, which sells and ships Pennsylvania-made food and crafts. The selection ranges from Philly favorites such as Tastykakes, soft pretzels and Goldenberg's Peanut Chews, to Pa. Dutch specialties such as apple butter and scrapple, to fine snacks and confections such as Keystone Crunch and Wilbur Buds, along with many more.
This holiday season, the Holahans estimate that they will ship more than four tons of just chocolate-covered pretzels, a fact recently noted by the Philadelphia Inquirer. On Sat., Dec. 17, Pennsylvania General Store will be featured on the 6 ABC TV show, FYI Philly (7pm ET).
My favorites for the holidays include Chocolate Scrapple ("No swine-it's divine!"), a sweet, crunchy milk chocolate confection studded with pieces of nuts, marshmallows, caramel and nuts and packed in a cute reusable tin, and the Philadelphia Chocolate Collection, an elegant sampler of butter creams, truffles, caramels and more, made by some of the Philadelphia area's most outstanding chocolatiers.

Musician Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, Minus 5, R.E.M., Baseball Project) said: "There is an avalanche of information in Stephen Tow's meticulously-researched The Strangest Tribe. It almost feels as if the author were there. Hell, I WAS there and I didn't know half this stuff. You'll find out how a bunch of punk rock geeks somehow turned sleepy Seattle and its basement-beer-bred music scene into a worldwide phenomenon. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll eventually fall over, as we did at the time. A ton of seriously killer music came out of the fuzz and fuck-all attitudes, and eventually money changed hands. But it was funny, too. Still is."
Gong Show Live at B.B. King's in Times Square, NYC Rescheduled for November 1st
Due to Hurricane Irene, the Gong Show Live show at B.B. King's in Times Square, NYC scheduled for Saturday, August 27 has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, November 1. All tickets for Aug. 27 will be honored.
